5 Movies You Should Catch this Christmas
It’s always a good time for movie, more so during Christmas this year, that is coinciding with the pandemic.
With so many choose, we have narrowed down 5 movies that we recommend you check out or revisit that you can enjoy with your family and loved ones.
1. The Home Alone Series

The Home Alone franchise has been a cult classic since the 90s. Its slapstick comedy that centers a child setting up traps/pranks for criminals is comically pleasing for both adults and children.
While the plot designs for each of the movies in the franchise are identical, people just can’t seem to re-watch it over and over, and we don’t know why!
Maybe it’s the quirky ideas of using home appliances in an unorthodox way to jeopardize the criminals is innovatively satisfying.
Its premise is fun and the storytelling is fleshed out in a way that best reflect the Christmas ambiance.
2. Krampus
Genre: Horror
Date released: 2015
There have been many retelling of the German folklore Krampus, but we have decided to go with the 2015 film by Michael Dougherty, as it is more modernized to appeal to all demographics.
That said, Dougherty’s version of Krampus remains true to its lore, where it focuses on Saint Nicholas’ evil counterpart and how it terrorizes the naughty children on Christmas.
But how this version of Krampus separates itself from its predecessors is its attention to graphical details.
As the 2015 version of the film has the luxury of a more modern sound and graphic editing, every ‘horror’ scene and creatures are masterfully rendered. If its aim is to terrify Christmas, then it is a terrifying success.
Therefore, with a good audio system and a 8K TV, you will be able to palpably feel the tension and thrill from the movie.
3. When Harry Met Sally
Genre: Romance, Comedy
Date released: 1989
Similar to Home Alone, Harry Met Sally is one of the classics that is a culprit for a re-watch during Christmas.
Without spoiling much, this movie is of a romantic tale between—which you would’ve guessed—Harry and Sally that spans for more than a decade.
Unlike most dated romance films, Harry Met Sally is a timeless classic with the right amount of humor to balance out its romantic clichés.
Partially set during Christmas, When Harry Met Sally is the go-to movie for Christmas lovebirds or for anyone who enjoys a great film in general.
This widely-acclaimed film, is best enjoyed with the air-con turned on and a cup of freshly-brewed coffee.
4. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
Genre: Fantasy, Adventure

Out of all the movie adaptations of C.S Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia, we’ve chosen The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as it fits the winter setting, and has strong Christmas themes in it.
Set in a fictitious world where talking animals and magic is real, Andrew Adamson’s has masterfully taken the words of C.S Lewis and brought them to life.
The visuals are stunning with excellent use of CGI. The story is engaging enough to keep both adults and kids attention—you most definitely would not be bored.
Note that, the movie also has its own delicacies which we won’t dive into as it might be a spoiler. Nevertheless, we recommend a plate of delicious gingerbread cookie baked and ready from your oven before watching the film!
5. Anastasia
Genre: Animation, Historical
Date released: 1997
Anastasia is an animated retelling of the lost daughter of Russia’s last czar. Beautifully drawn with amazing songs, it is easy to compare Anastasia with many of Disney’s greats.
But the charm of Anastasia is that it’s bold in tackling a serious tone. It is not easy feat to tell a story based on an infamous historical event, while making it appealing for all ages.
Seemingly dark at first, Anastasia packs a good mix of drama, romance and fantasy. Plus, it is atmospherically similar to Christmas, with its emphasis on music and togetherness.
If your family consists of young adults then Anastasia is perfect family film because it is not watered down as a children-only film.
